September 2011 Third Thursday Panel - Online Advertising

The rains have poured, the wind has blown, and the earth has shook.  August recess has come and gone.  School's back in session.  It's time once again for (drumroll…) Salsa's Third Thursday training and happy hour!

THIS THURSDAY -- September 15th -- we'll convene for our monthly fun at Salsa's DC office in Dupont.  From 4:30-5:30 PM, join us for a Salsa Strategy Session on Online Advertising.  With campaign season heating up and end-of-the-year fundraising goals on the horizon, now's the time to brush up on best practices for growing and activating your list through online advertising.  Come learn the tricks of the trade for buying ads on Facebook, Google and more.  Hear from some of the most knowledgeable professionals in the industry, and then stick around for happy hour with the Salsa staff, business partners, clients and friends.

About this month's panelists:

Amy Niles Gonzalez is Founder and President of Blueprint Interactive, a new media strategy, marketing and design firm. A veteran entrepreneur, interactive strategist and management consultant, Amy served most recently as President of MSHC Partners, Inc., a leading progressive political communications firm. There she worked on campaigns for dozens of candidates and causes at all levels, from congressional to presidential, including: Hillary Clinton for President, Gabby Giffords for Congress, EMILY’s LIST, NYSUT and Planned Parenthood. Under her leadership, MSHC’s new media division grew from three employees to more than twenty, generated record profits and won more awards than any other online political communications firm, including the coveted Yahoo! “Big Idea Chair Award.”  Prior to joining MSHC Partners, Amy founded and managed the Interactive Marketing group of Capital One, one of the nation’s largest and most diversified financial services companies. Previously, she co-founded Strong Numbers – a software firm – that was recognized as a Top 10 e-Commerce Company in Massachusetts and a finalist in Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s $50K Entrepreneurship Competition. Amy has also held management consulting positions at The Boston Consulting Group and McKinsey & Company.

Eli Kaplan is a Founding Partner of Rising Tide Interactive, where he provides online advertising and strategic consulting services for clients such as the Democratic Governors Association, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and Tim Kaine’s US Senate campaign. Before establishing his consulting firm, Kaplan managed the new media operations of Gubernatorial and US Senate campaigns in various states. He has a proven record of raising millions in online donations and communicating poll-tested messaging to millions of voters.  Kaplan has successfully used new media tactics to push campaign messages into outlets such as the Associated Press, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and Politico, as well as broadcast and cable television.

Josh Koster is the Managing Partner of Chong + Koster. He is credited with pioneering long tail political paid media, coining the term "long tail nanotargeting," co-pioneering the first self-microtargeting campaign website, crashing Iran's propoganda websites in the wake of the Iranian election, helping get Lou Dobbs fired, and proving that online ads can move public opinion on their own. In addition to his new media experience, he has written and analyzed polls, written radio and print campaigns, won on TV, and has personally raised more than a million dollars for Democratic candidates and causes. His work has been covered by Politics Magazine, ArsTechnica,, ClickZ, TechPresident, and Foreign Policy, The National Journal and cable news networks, to name just a few.

Chris Talbot is the founder and President of
Talbot Digital. His firm provides online communications and media strategy, message development and implementation, social media management, online advertising, tracking and analysis. Prior to this, Chris spent three years at Google. As a leader of Google’s Elections & Issue Advocacy team in Washington, Chris provided online strategy counsel and campaign management to political consultants, issue groups, and candidates for federal and statewide office.  A founder of Google’s Media Partnerships division, Chris received the company’s Vice President award in 2008.  His list of past clients includes national party committees, victorious election candidates, Fortune 100 companies, foreign embassies, agencies, consultants, crisis-management and PR firms.
